Rodney Hathaway is the County Administrator for New Kent County, Virginia, where he has served since his appointment in 2012. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Urban Studies from Virginia Commonwealth University before serving 16 years in the Virginia Air National Guard with the 192nd Aircraft Maintenance Operations Flight. In 1998, he received a Master of Public Administration degree from Old Dominion University and began his career as a Regional Planner with the Middle Peninsula Planning District Commission. He later served as a Senior Planner for the City of Richmond and as Planning Development Manager for the Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority.
Rodney joined New Kent County in 2004 as Planning Manager and was promoted to Economic Development Director in 2009, Assistant County Administrator in 2011, and County Administrator in 2012. Throughout his career, he has championed initiatives that strengthen infrastructure, promote economic growth, and expand broadband access to improve quality of life for residents and businesses.
Rodney and his wife, Tamika, a sixth-grade teacher at New Kent Middle School, are the proud parents of five children.
