BLC 926.1 Navigating in the Era of Uncertainty

We live in an era defined by uncertainty, where change is constant, and disruptions can emerge from almost any direction. Global economic volatility, shifting energy markets, rapid technological advances, political upheaval, geopolitical tensions, climate-related events, and evolving workforce dynamics all converge to create a future that is harder than ever to predict. This course focuses on tools and strategies to help boards think differently, govern more effectively and change how they develop and pursue strategy.

Facilitator: Steve Seger

Steve Seger is a Principal at SCG, serving as an adjunct professor in Management, Economics, and Supply Chain Management, an association instructor, consultant, and author in the areas of governance, executive management, and staff level training. His experience includes work with electric cooperatives, broadband companies, water/wastewater utilities, and logistics.

Steve’s background includes time spent in the military, working with utilities, leading a supply chain management company, and serving as a director. He has served on boards of three private companies as well as MTE (Middle Tennessee Electric Cooperative), where he attained NRECA’s Credentialed Cooperative Director (CCD) certificate, the Board Leadership Certificate (BLC), and the Director Gold (DG) certification. Additionally, Steve earned Board Certification from the National Association of Corporate Directors and served the association as a group instructor.

As a consultant, Steve’s projects follow the same general three-part process. Initially, he provides strategic leadership for clients by working with Executive Management and Board of Directors to establish long-range operational strategies. Thereafter, he develops operational plans and implements technologies, business policies, and personnel competencies in support of strategic intent and business development objectives.  Finally, Steve identifies key performance metrics and creates reporting systems used to monitor success.

Lastly, Steve served as a partner, president, and Board Secretary/Treasurer of a national logistics company. While there, he created and executed strategic, financial, and operational plans ultimately leading a transaction team selling the company.

He holds a Bachelor of Science (Finance) and Master of Business Administration.
